Donations Vs. Commercials

I’ll just open by stating the problem: It is costly to run this station. There are 2 major costs involved in operating an internet radio station. One is the bandwidth to serve the station to you. The other is royalties and licensing fees that allow us to legally play the music so the artists and their labels get paid for their work. At the current setup with how many listeners I am allowed My fees total about $70 a month.

Here’s the problem: If I want to make this thing both legal and huge, it costs more and more! I have to pay more for both streaming and for royalties. It’s a really crummy setup. I understand that artists need to be paid. But I also understand they want more exposure so it’s a backwards spiral for us web broadcasters. I’d LOVE to be able to have 1000′s of listeners jammin’ to Hot Country Hits and not have to wade through tons of commercials to hear the music.

I’ve done some research and there are ways to make money by playing commercials. It’s not difficult. I just play them. However, I feel like in order to differentiate myself from all the other country stations on FM and online, I need to not have commercials. I feel like more of you will listen and tell your friends about us if you can tell them there’s no commercials.

Here’s the solution: I need your help. To keep us commercial-free, please donate to us. I have options on our website, our stream launch page and our Facebook page to either make a one-time donation or create a subscription where you pay a set amount monthly. Both options are through PayPal and are flexible. There’s no contracts for the subscription and you can change it any time. Currently, under the Subscription option, you can pick $5, $10 or $20 a month. All the money donated goes directly into the PayPal account where my fees come out of. The money will not go toward any station equipment or upgrades. I will not use the money for anything personal.

Plan B: I start playing commercials. I REALLY don’t want to! I think that would be reason enough to just end the whole project. Why would people listen if I had commercials and was like anything else out there?

I am very happy with the incredible growth we’ve seen in 2011! A lot of you are very loyal listeners who also interact on social media! I was happy to have 2011 be our free year. Now that I know that this concept is viable and successful and that I want to continue, it’s time to get serious.

Thank you for all your help and support!

-Timmy

Thank you, Stephen!

Stephen Keogh

Stephen Keogh

Stephen Keogh, the venerable host of our weekend countdown show American Country Chart Top 20, has decided to discontinue the show. He cited reasons of time constraints as well as some financial aspects that have prevented him from continuing the program.

We are deeply saddened by this announcement and wish to convey our deep gratitude to Stephen for his incredible talent and contribution to making our station the success it’s become in the last year.

Stephen is still the morning host for KFM in Kildare, Ireland and you can either stream the show live or listen to podcasts from each episode on their website: HERE

We wish Stephen the best for 2012 and thank him for all he has done for America’s Country!

2012 What’s Next?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! As you’re enjoying these wonderful times with your family and loved ones and our excellent, if not downright weird, Christmas Music selection, I wanted to at least hint at some changes coming next year for America’s Country. These are not major changes but some evolutionary changes.

One of the changes you’ll notice almost right away is that we will not be playing music from the 90′s. I really LOVE the 90′s and could someday see creating a station based on mainly 90′s Country. Meanwhile, to keep our focus on what’s hot and fresh (like that pie your sweet Grandma just baked!), we are keeping our music in this century. We have a great library of songs from 2000 to now that will entertain you and keep a grin on your face. We will also still be able to keep our repeats to a minimum and our variety at a maximum!

Something else we’re looking at for 2012 are some new partnerships with great Country Music news publishers. We’re building relationships with sites like Got Country? and CountryMusicIsLove to ensure you are up to date on the latest news and notes from Nashville. We are making changes to our website to include more news and info from these great sources and these news releases will be posted on our page as well as on our Twitter, Facebook and G+ accounts. We are hoping to get more interaction from the artists as well. This should be a lot of fun and informative and keep you coming back for more!

I can’t get much more into details at this point. There needs to be a teaser to get your interest! I will post more here and on our social media pages as things continue to progress!

Please have a very Merry Christmas and a fun and safe New Year’s! Thank you for making 2011 such a successful and enjoyable first year for us at America’s Country!

Merry Christmas!

We’re pleased to offer you our 100% Christmas Music this year! This incredible variety of great Holiday music will continue through New Year’s Eve. We’ve collected over 4,000 Christmas songs over the years and they span a gigantic area of time and genres to be able to entertain, touch and tickle you. We play the music 24/7 with only 2 brief interruptions per hour to ID our station and no commercials!

The idea here is why would you listen to any other source of Christmas music? FM stations have tons of commercials and only a couple hundred (at most!) songs. Your MP3 player doesn’t play a continuous flow of music with enhanced sound and hardly any repeats. Satellite or other digital music sources really focus in on certain types of music and you have to search around for different styles.

When New Year’s Day 2012 comes around, we will return to our Hot Country Hits programming and we’ll also celebrate our 1 year birthday! We’ll have some contests and other goodies to thank you for keeping us going!

Please enjoy our 100% Christmas Music programming for the rest of 2011! We’d like you to also spread the word! Let your friends and family know that we play so many types of Christmas Music, not just Country! We’re looking to break some records!

Merry Christmas!

-Timmy
